C.G. Conn was opened by Charles Gerard Conn after he invented an improved trumpet mouthpiece in 1874. The Four in One Cornet that could be played in four different keys was released in 1876 in association with Eugene Dupont. Conn expanded the product line and in 1915 he sold his company to Carl Greenleaf who run the Conn Company until 1949 and increased the company’s involvement in musical education. C.G. Conn went through a number of changes after 1969 when it was sold to Crowell-Collier MacMillan then sold again to Daniel Henkin in 1980. Henkin also acquired the King, and W.T. Armstrong Companies. In 1985 the company was sold again to Skane Grippen and it became part of United Musical Instruments. In 2000 United Musical Instruments was sold to Steinway Musical Instruments. The company joined forces with the Selmer Company in 2002 and became Conn-Selmer, Inc., which was acquired by the private company Paulson and Co. in 2013. Conn, Selmer, Vincent Bach, King, Holton, Leblanc, Ludwig, Scherl and Roth, Wm. Lewis and Son, Yanagisawa, Armstrong, Glaesel and Henri Selmer Paris are all brands of the Conn-Selmer Company.
